Wireless Pillow Speakers Put a Personal Home Theater In Your Bed

         You may have spent a small fortune on the impressive home theater setup in your living room, but when you're watching TV in bed, are you really going to settle for the crappy sound coming from its tiny speakers? Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 coming to AT&T with LTE in the coming weeks

We already knew Samsung's 8-inch Galaxy Note would be coming to the United States, but only as a WiFi variant. Fortunately for US hopefuls craving a version that's capable of getting an actual data connection outside the safety of the nearest wireless hotspot, AT&T will be bringing an LTE-enabled version to its network in the coming weeks -- though this appears to be an exclusive to the operator. We're still waiting to hear about pricing, but anyone interested in grabbing this particular tablet should be taking a close look at their bank accounts right about now. A teaser of a Samsung phone capable of spending some time underwater with a curiously familiar set of hardware buttons underneath the screen? Sure looks like the Galaxy S4 Active to us, and AT&T is ready to unveil its rendition of the water-resistant device to the nation tomorrow, according to a video it released on YouTube today. The teaser shows a few angles of the phone shrouded in darkness, as well as some shots of it hanging out in a glass full of water. Finally, it wraps up its 57-second presentation telling us that we'll find out more on June 13th. AltKeyboard Will Turn You Into A More Efficient iPhone Typist [Jailbreak]

It takes practice to learn how to efficiently type on the iOS keyboard. Because all the keys are virtual, you have to tab through multiple layouts to access all of the available characters. I remember how slow I was at alternating keyboards to type numbers and punctation when I got my first iPhone. Over time, muscle memory kicks in and it becomes second nature.

What if there was a more productive way to type on iOS? A new jailbreak tweak called AltKeyboard is a fantastic enhancement every iPhone typist needs.

No layout switching required.

Alternate keys are available by quickly swiping up on a main key. You don’t have to switch layouts to access the numerical keys; the most used options are all available on the same layout.

There are two options that can be enabled in the tweak’s preferences. Tapping “Flick up” switches the gesture to a slide, which I found to be a little more tricky than the default. You can also tap “Alternate key” to enable the shift key layout. Instead of numbers and punctation, flicking up on a key products its capital version. Like the flick or slide gesture, choosing either layout is purely a matter of preference. I found that the default flick up and alternate key layout suited my needs perfectly.

AltKeyboard is designed by Sentry, a prolific jailbreak tweak and concept designer we’ve featured numerous times. Like his other work, this tweak is a great example of how subtle, focused changes can really improve the iOS experience.

MediaTek Promotes Its New Quad-Core Tablet Processor

MediaTek has announced its new tablet-orientated quad-core processor to meet the needs of the rapidly growing tablet market. The MT8125 chip follows the same formula as ARM’s Cortex A7 1.5GHz processor, ensuring that it’s compatible with most high-end tablets.

MediaTek also based its MT8125 chip on the PowerVR Series5XT GPU chip, this means that the MT8125 will be able to drive screens with resolutions up to 1920×1200 and will support full HD 1080p video playback and recording,

The wide range of multimedia features and multimedia capabilities are great, but just to make sure MediaTek’s MT8125 chip is a real winner, MediaTek integrated support for 3G HSPA+, 2G EDGE and Wi-Fi options too. This means that any tablet developer who decides to incorporate the MT8125 processor in its device, can easily offer a variety of options for consumers.

According to the press release, one of the first devices to head to the market with the new MT8125 is Lenovo’s IdeaTab S6000.

Samsung Announces Galaxy Tab 3 8-Inch & Galaxy Tab 3 10.1-Inch

Samsung has today added two new tablets to its Galaxy Tab 3 family which will join the 7-inch model that launched back in May. One of them has an 8-inch display and is “designed to be held in one hand,” while the other has a 10.1-inch display for an “amplified multimedia experience.”

Samsung is always working to offer its products in as many shapes and sizes as it possibly can, so we knew it wouldn’t be long before new tablets were added to its latest Galaxy Tab 3 line. Here’s what you can expect from each device:

Both devices also come pre-loaded with a plethora of Samsung apps and services — as we’ve come to expect from Samsung devices — including ChatON, Samsung Hub, Group Play, S Translator, S Travel, Dual View, Pop-up Video, WatchON, and more.

While the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1-inch may have the largest display, the 8-inch model actually looks like the better option — at least in my opinion. Both devices have the same resolution, so the smaller one has a greater pixel density, and therefore sharper text and images.

The 8-inch model also has more RAM and a better rear-facing camera.

Both devices will be available worldwide at the beginning of this month, Samsung says, but there’s no word on pricing just yet.

New Pebble Update Brings Notification Improvements, UI Tweaks & More

The Pebble smartwatch has just received a new software update that makes a number of improvements to notifications, tweaks the device’s user interface, and fixes numerous bugs. It also adds a new watch face called Simplicity.

Here’s the complete list of changes with PebbleOS version 1.11:

• Allows multiple notifications to be viewed if they arrive within a short time frame

• Improved Set Time UI

• Added the option of showing your current speed (as oppossed to your pace) in the RunKeeper application.

• Swapped next and previous track buttons in the music application.

• Removed the Fuzzy Time watchface (it is available through the watchapp library).

Bug Fixes

• Fixed a few issues where the bluetooth module would consume too much power.

• Fixed an issue where rounded rects drawn with graphics_fill_rect did not handle being clipped properly.

• Sped up text rendering when some of the text layer is clipped off the screen.

• Fixed a bug where the vibrating motor would get stuck on.

• Fixed a crash when changing windows, most commonly seen in the set time and set alarm UIs.

• Fixed an issue where SMS messages on iOS would be incorrectly shown as an email with a very long subject line.

The Pebble is still in short supply at the moment, and it isn’t easy to get your hands on one. However, its creators are working hard to build as many as they possibly can. They’ve already shipped almost 70,000 units during the Pebble’s first year, and they expect to ship hundreds of thousands more in its second.

New Asus Transformer Pad Infinity Tablet Has As Many Pixels As A Retina MacBook Pro

Asus has today announced its latest Transformer Pad Infinity slate at Computex 2013 in Taipei, and boy is it a beast. Not only does it carry NVIDIA’s latest Tegra 4 processor — which has a 72-core GeForce GPU — but it also has a 10.1-inch display with the same 2560×1600 resolution as the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro.

That’s a whopping 299 pixels-per-inch.

While that may not sound all that impressive when you compare it to some of the latest smartphone displays, it is pretty cutting-edge for a tablet. For instance, the iPad’s stunning Retina display, which is widely regarded as one of the best tablet displays on the market right now, has only 264 pixels-per-inch.

The new Transformer Pad Infinity also packs a 1.9GHz quad-core Tegra 4 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage. It has a full-size USB port for connecting game controllers and external storage devices, an HDMI port that will throw out Ultra HD 4K video — if you have a TV capable of displaying it — and a full-size SD card slot.

As far as cameras go, there’s a 5-megapixel shooter on the back, and a 1.2-megapixel shooter on the front.

Like previous Transformer Pad slates, this one comes with a keyboard dock that has a built-in microSD card slot, and possibly an extra battery — though that’s yet to be confirmed by Asus.

The Transformer Pad Infinity will launch with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean pre-installed, but there’s currently no word on pricing or availability just yet.
