Forget rumors about an entry-level iPhone or that the iPhone 5S will feature a fingerprint reader. Today a new rumor has surfaced from Korean ETNews (via Unwiredview) that in early 2014 Apple plans to release an even larger iPad called the iPad Maxi.
The iPad Maxi is expected to feature a whopping 12.9-inch screen and apparently industry sources are saying that Apple is already talking to Korean display and other component manufacturers about the part supplies.
Apple will actively target 13” ultrabooks and notebooks with the iPad Maxi, providing the device with better portability and battery life, and comparable screen real estate for productivity applications. Another target for the 12.9” tablet – is educational market and digital textbooks. The bigger screen is more suited to replace the traditional textbooks, and Apple with partners is also developing a new display technology with less glare, to be used in classrooms.
This is the first time we have heard such a rumor and considering ETNews doesn’t have a very good track record you should take this report with a huge grain of salt.
Although a larger iPad could make sense, Apple just released the iPad Mini not too long ago and introducing yet another model so soon seems strange. We will just have to wait and see if we hear more about the iPad Maxi in the future or whether this rumor will be quick to bite the dust.
